Applicants beware: Scammers are targeting job seekers

Scammers are using fake job postings and posing as HR representatives in an effort to steal your personal or financial information. Recently, ESHYFT’s name was used in such a scam. This scam involved a fake recruiter, a lengthy application form, an offer letter, a request for valid identification, and the issuing of a fake check to purchase equipment, such as a computer or printer.

If you come across a recruiter or a job posting that seems suspicious, there are a few things you can do to check the legitimacy of the position and protect yourself:

  1. If you come across the position on a third-party site, validate the legitimacy by checking to see if the job is posted on the company’s career page
  2. Check for spelling or grammar errors in the recruiter’s email, job posting, and offer letter.
  3. Check LinkedIn to see if the recruiter works at the company they claim they do.
  4. Don’t click on any links or submit any information to a website you do not trust.

In the case of the scammer, who was posing as an ESHYFT employee there were a few things that struck applicants as odd:

  1. They were asked to fill out a very long screening form that was not linked to a careers page or a job site.
  2. They were surprised when they received an offer letter despite never being asked for a phone interview or a virtual interview.
  3. They asked for a copy of valid identification without being asked to submit a W-4.
  4. They could not find the “recruiter” on LinkedIn.
  5. They were asked to purchase their own equipment with the promise of being reimbursed by check.
  6. They were asked for the name of their bank.

Despite scammers pretending to be us, we can assure you that ESHYFT is very much a real company, we are hiring, and we are on a mission to provide care to our most vulnerable population by connecting nurses to healthcare facilities facing staffing needs. Here’s how you’ll know we’re real:

  1. If we contact you, it’s because you have applied for one of our jobs.
  2. The person who contacts you, whether it be HR or the hiring manager, will have a @staging2.eshyft.com email.
  3. If it’s a remote position, we will interview you virtually, and if it’s an in-office position, we can’t wait to meet you face-to-face.
  4. We will provide you with the equipment you need to do your job efficiently.
  5. You will be asked to fill out a W-4 on your first day for payroll purposes. At real jobs, you get paid!

If you do come across someone fraudulently posing as us, firstly, we’re sorry that’s happened, secondly, please report it to us, and thirdly, check out our Careers page for a list of positions we’re currently hiring for. We can’t wait to review your application!
